My Journey Coding with AI

Copilot in VS Code. Oh, better IntelliSense! How does it know what I want!? Super cool! Sometimes it gets in the way, though.

Cursor. Another level of IntelliSense. Me likey.

Cursor again. I can chat with an agent to organize my thoughts, and it reads the code!? So cool! But I’ll stick with IntelliSense.

Cursor once more. OK, fine. Chatting with the agent actually helps. It can do stuff now. I can review the changes and talk them through.

All up and to the right so far.

Still Cursor. I can’t read “you are absolutely right” one more time. Please!

Claude Code. It does so much without me asking! And it works! I don’t even have to look at the code. Subagents can review it. I can design a skill or a loop.

But wait. That’s really bad code. This won’t hold up. Way too many assumptions. I didn’t ask for this. Where did that dependency come from?

Codex. Oh, simpler code. Fewer assumptions. Way less proactive. Cool.

Pi with ChatGPT. Great! Now I have full control over the context. And it’s fast!

ChatGPT has been letting me down lately, so another change is probably coming. That’s the fun part: the workflow is never done.
